Acer Altos R500 Video Card
Most new desktops will have at least one PCIe slot open for a video card to be installed. Currently, nVidia rules the dedicated video card market, while AMD is in second. There are really only two kinds of video cards, integrated and dedicated. Integrated graphics are integrated into the motherboard itself, while a dedicated graphics card is an individual piece of hardware that is bought and installed separately. Integrated, or onboard, graphics are almost never as good as a separate video card, in general. A graphics card processes the input and sends the resulting images to an external monitor where it is displayed for you. A dedicated graphics card is necessary for most games you would play on a desktop computer like Mass Effect, Grand Theft Auto or Battlefield.
Some clues your display card will die soon
- The graphics on your screen displays weird colors or images
- Your Acer crashes when trying to start up a graphic intensive game
- The screen does not always come on when starting up
- The video card driver has issues installing correctly
