Acer Altos R520 Video Card
There are two types of graphic cards, integrated and dedicated. Integrated is built into the motherboard, while dedicated is a separarate piece of hardware that gets installed. Integrated video cards are almost never as good as dedicated graphic cards, in general. Most newer computers will have at least one spot available for a dedicated video card to be added to the system. Today, nVidia rules the dedicated video card market, while AMD is in second. Both an integrated and dedicated video card processes graphics and sends the rendered images to a monitor where it is displayed for you. A dedicated graphics card is usually necessary for most games you would play on a desktop computer like Mass Effect, Grand Theft Auto or Battlefield.
What happens when my video graphics card has to be replaced?
- The monitor depicts vertical or striped lines
- The PC restarts when trying to start up a graphic intensive game
- Nothing seems to come on as you boot the PC
- The video card driver does not seem to install correctly
