WiFi, or wireless internet, uses an adapter in order to talk to your wireless router or modem. Finding a WiFi adapter is easy because all you need to know is the current operating system on your laptop. It will be easier to buy a new USB adapter and install it, than to replace any built-in adapter your laptop may have. A lot of newer wireless adapters are simply plug and play, in that you just plug it in the USB port and the system will install the drivers automatically.
