There are two types of graphic cards, integrated and dedicated. Integrated is built into the motherboard, whilst a dedicated card is purchased and installed onto the main board. Integrated display adapters are not as good as a separate video card, in general. Most new desktops will have at least one PCIe slot open for a dedicated video card to be installed on the motherboard.
