The Alienware M18X power adapter is responsible for two things, to charge the onboard battery and powering the laptop. If buying off-brand, it is imperative to note both the volts and amps outputs. A universal power adapter is another possibility but only if necessary. When choosing a new AC charger, the actual Alienware brand is usually going to be the safest choice.
