Apple Power Macintosh 8500 Video Card
There are two types of graphic cards, integrated and dedicated. Integrated is built into the motherboard, while a dedicated graphics card is an individual piece of hardware that is bought and installed separately. A video card processes the input and sends the rendered images to a monitor where you can see the results. A dedicated graphics card is necessary for high-end games on the desktop like Mass Effect, Grand Theft Auto or Battlefield. Currently, nVidia rules the dedicated video card market, while AMD is sitting in second place. Integrated, or onboard, graphics are almost never as good as a dedicated video card, in general. Almost all newer desktops will have at least one PCIe slot open for a dedicated video card to be installed.
