Apple Power Macintosh 9500-180MP Video Card
Almost all newer desktops will have at least one spot available for a dedicated video card to be installed on the motherboard. Integrated, or onboard, graphics are almost never as good as dedicated graphic cards, generally speaking. A dedicated graphics card is necessary for most games you would play on a desktop computer like Overwatch, Battlefield or Far Cry. There are two types of video cards, integrated and dedicated. Integrated is built into the motherboard, while a dedicated graphics card is an individual piece of hardware that is bought and installed separately. A video card processes the input and sends the rendered images to a monitor where it is displayed for you. Today, graphics card maker nVidia is the most popular in the dedicated card market, while AMD is in second.
Major signs to watch for in a bad graphics card
- Your display displays nothing
- The PC reboots when trying to start up a graphic intensive game
- Nothing seems to show up when booting up
- A driver for the video card fails to install correctly
