Asus TS100-E7 Video Card
Today, graphics card maker nVidia is the most popular in the dedicated video card market, while AMD is sitting in second place. There are two types of video cards, integrated and dedicated. Integrated graphics are integrated into the motherboard itself, whilst a dedicated card is purchased and installed onto the main board. A dedicated graphics card is usually necessary for high-end games on the desktop like Mass Effect, Grand Theft Auto or Battlefield. A graphics card processes the input and renders images to the monitor where you can see the results. Almost all newer desktops will have at least one PCIe slot open for a graphics card to be added to the system. Integrated, or onboard, graphics are not as good as a dedicated video card, in general.
Subtle cues of a failing video graphics card
- The graphics on your screen produces vertical or striped lines
- The desktop restarts when trying to start up a graphic intensive game
- The screen does not always show up when booting up
- The video card driver has problems installing properly
