Compaq AP500 Video Card
Integrated video cards are not as good as a separate video card, generally speaking. Most new desktops will have at least one spot available for a graphics card to be installed on the motherboard. Both an integrated and dedicated video card computes and sends the resulting images to an external monitor where it is displayed for you. There are two types of graphic cards, integrated and dedicated. Integrated graphics are integrated into the motherboard itself, while a dedicated graphics card is an individual piece of hardware that is bought and installed separately. Dedicated video cards are pretty much required for most games you would play on a desktop computer like Far Cry, World of Warcraft or Battlefield. Currently, nVidia rules the dedicated video card market, while AMD is sitting in second place.
What are the clues to watch out for to know my video graphics card is crapping out?
- The monitor displays lines
- The desktop restarts when starting a graphic intensive program
- Nothing seems to come on as you boot the PC
- The driver cannot install correctly
