Dell OptiPlex 980 Video Card
There are really only two kinds of graphic cards, integrated and dedicated. Integrated graphics are integrated into the motherboard itself, whilst a dedicated card is purchased and installed onto the main board. All video cards processes graphics and sends the rendered images to a monitor where it is displayed for you. Almost all newer desktops will have at least one PCIe slot open for a dedicated video card to be added to the system. A dedicated graphics card is required for high-end games on the desktop like Overwatch, Battlefield or Far Cry. Integrated display adapters are almost never as good as a separate video card, generally speaking. At the moment, graphics card maker nVidia is the most popular in the dedicated card market, while AMD is sitting in second place.
Simple indications of a laboring display adapter
- The graphics on your screen shows vertical or striped lines
- The desktop crashes when starting a game
- The display does not show up when starting the computer
- A driver for the video card does not seem to install like it should
