Dell OptiPlex GX300 Video Card
There are two types of graphic cards, integrated and dedicated. An integrated graphic card is built-in to the main board, while dedicated is a separarate piece of hardware that gets installed. At the moment, nVidia rules the dedicated video card market, while AMD is in second. A dedicated graphics card is required for any high-end games you play on a desktop like Overwatch, Battlefield or Far Cry. A video card processes the input and sends the resulting images to an external monitor where you can see the results. Almost all newer desktops will have at least one PCIe slot open for a graphics card to be added to the system. Integrated, or onboard, graphics will never be better than dedicated graphic cards, in general.
What are some indications that my video graphics card needs to be replaced?
- The monitor produces lines
- The desktop reboots when starting a graphic intensive program
- The screen does not always come on as you boot the PC
- The video card driver fails to install fully
