Dell PowerEdge 6400 Video Card
Dedicated video cards are pretty much required for any high-end games you play on a desktop like Mass Effect, Grand Theft Auto or Battlefield. Integrated display adapters are almost never as good as a separate video card, in general. Almost all newer desktops will have at least one PCIe slot open for a dedicated video card to be added to the system. At the moment, nVidia rules the dedicated video card market, while AMD is sitting in second place. There are really only two kinds of video cards, integrated and dedicated. Integrated cards are built-in to the computer itself, while a dedicated graphics card is an individual piece of hardware that is bought and installed separately. Both an integrated and dedicated video card computes and renders images to the monitor where you can see the results.
Cues of a barely functioning video graphics card
- The monitor shows weird colors or images
- The PC restarts when beginning a game
- Nothing seems to show up when booting up
- A driver for the video card does not seem to install fully
