Dell PowerEdge C5125 Video Card
There are really only two kinds of video cards, integrated and dedicated. Integrated graphics are integrated into the motherboard itself, while dedicated is a separarate piece of hardware that gets installed. Most newer computers should have at least one PCI Express slot available for a graphics card to be installed. A dedicated graphics card is necessary for most games you would play on a desktop computer like Far Cry, World of Warcraft or Battlefield. Integrated display adapters are almost never as good as a dedicated video card, generally speaking. A graphics card computes and sends the resulting images to an external monitor where it is displayed for you. At the moment, nVidia rules the dedicated card market, while AMD is sitting in second place.
Red flags of a poorly performing graphics card
- The monitor shows bits and pieces of the desktop
- The desktop reboots when starting a game
- The display does not turn on as you boot the PC
- A driver for the video card has problems installing fully
