Dell XPS 630I Video Card
There are two types of graphic cards, integrated and dedicated. An integrated graphic card is built-in to the main board, while dedicated is a separarate piece of hardware that gets installed. A graphics card computes and renders images to the monitor where you can see the results. Dedicated video cards are usually necessary for high-end games on the desktop like Mass Effect, Grand Theft Auto or Battlefield. Currently, nVidia rules the dedicated card market, while AMD is in second. Most newer computers should have at least one PCI Express slot available for a graphics card to be added to the system. Integrated video cards are not as good as a separate video card, generally speaking.
Some clues your display card is in dire straights
- The monitor produces vertical or striped lines
- The PC restarts when beginning a game
- The display does not show up as you attempt to boot up
