Dell XPS 720 Video Card
A dedicated graphics card is typically a required piece of hardware for any high-end games you play on a desktop like Mass Effect, Grand Theft Auto or Battlefield. All video cards processes graphics and sends the rendered images to a monitor where it is displayed for you. There are really only two kinds of graphic cards, integrated and dedicated. Integrated is built into the motherboard, while a dedicated graphics card is an individual piece of hardware that is bought and installed separately. Currently, nVidia rules the dedicated video card market, while AMD is sitting in second place. Integrated video cards are almost never as good as dedicated graphic cards, generally speaking. Most newer computers will have at least one PCIe slot open for a graphics card to be added to the system.
Major symptoms to watch for in a bad video card
- The monitor produces bits and pieces of the desktop
- Your Dell restarts when trying to start up a graphic intensive game
- Nothing seems to turn on as you attempt to boot up
- The video card driver fails to install like it should
