Gateway 960 Video Card
There are really only two kinds of video cards, integrated and dedicated. Integrated cards are built-in to the computer itself, whilst a dedicated card is purchased and installed onto the main board. Most new desktops will have at least one spot available for a graphics card to be installed on the motherboard. A dedicated graphics card is pretty much required for high-end games on the desktop like Far Cry, World of Warcraft or Battlefield. Integrated video cards are not as good as a dedicated video card, generally speaking. At the moment, nVidia rules the dedicated card market, while AMD is in second. A graphics card processes the input and sends the resulting images to an external monitor where it is displayed for you.
What to see if the display adapter is dying?
- The graphics on your screen produces vertical or striped lines
- The desktop freezes when starting a graphic intensive program
- The display does not turn on as you boot the PC
- The video card driver has issues installing correctly
