Most USB wireless adapters are simply plug and play, which just means that you only need to put the adapter into an available USB port and the OS will install the drivers on its own. Buying a wireless adapter is quite easy because all you need to know is the current operating system on your desktop. WiFi, or wireless internet, uses a piece of hardware in order to connect to your router and modem. You are better off buying a common WiFi USB adapter and install it, than it is to replace any type of OEM adapter you might have.
Clues of a failing wireless internet adapter
- Your WiFi signal disconnects and reconnects over and over again
- The WiFi adapter driver shows it as not installed
- The WiFi adapter in your Gateway desktop cannot see the SSID coming from your router
