Lenovo IdeaCentre Q100 Video Card
Almost all newer desktops will have at least one spot available for a video card to be added to the system. Both an integrated and dedicated video card computes and sends the rendered images to a monitor where you can see the results. Dedicated video cards are typically a required piece of hardware for any high-end games you play on a desktop like Mass Effect, Grand Theft Auto or Battlefield. Integrated, or onboard, graphics are almost never as good as a separate video card, in general. There are really only two kinds of video cards, integrated and dedicated. Integrated is built into the motherboard, whilst a dedicated card is purchased and installed onto the main board. Currently, nVidia rules the dedicated video card market, while AMD is in second.
Major clues the video card is going to die
- The monitor shows weird colors or images
- The PC reboots when starting a graphic intensive program
- The screen does not always come on when booting up
- The video card driver fails to install properly
