Lenovo ThinkCentre 4504 Video Card
There are two types of graphic cards, integrated and dedicated. Integrated graphics are integrated into the motherboard itself, while dedicated is a separarate piece of hardware that gets installed. Integrated display adapters are almost never as good as a separate video card, generally speaking. Almost all newer desktops should have at least one PCI Express slot available for a graphics card to be added to the system. A dedicated graphics card is pretty much required for high-end games on the desktop like Mass Effect, Grand Theft Auto or Battlefield. At the moment, nVidia rules the dedicated card market, while AMD is in second. Both an integrated and dedicated video card computes and sends the rendered images to a monitor where it is displayed for you.
How can I tell if my graphics card is on its last leg?
- The graphics on your screen shows bits and pieces of the desktop
- The PC crashes when starting a game
- The display does not turn on as you boot the PC
- The video card driver cannot install all the way
