Lenovo ThinkCentre 8143 Video Card
Most new desktops should have at least one PCI Express slot available for a video card to be installed on the motherboard. A graphics card processes the input and sends the rendered images to a monitor where it is displayed for you. A dedicated graphics card is typically a required piece of hardware for high-end games on the desktop like Far Cry, World of Warcraft or Battlefield. There are two types of graphic cards, integrated and dedicated. An integrated graphic card is built-in to the main board, whilst a dedicated card is purchased and installed onto the main board. At the moment, nVidia rules the dedicated video card market, while AMD is sitting in second place. Integrated display adapters are not as good as a dedicated video card, in general.
What are some hints that my graphics card is not working properly?
- The graphics on your screen displays vertical or striped lines
- Your Lenovo restarts when trying to start up a graphic intensive game
- The screen does not always show up as you boot the PC
- A driver for the video card does not seem to install like it should
