Lenovo ThinkPad X220 Wifi
WiFi, or wireless internet, uses a piece of hardware in order to talk to your home router. Buying a wireless adapter is quite easy due to the fact that all you need to know beforehand is the operating system that is installed on your laptop. A lot of newer wireless adapters are simply plug and play, in that you just plug it in the USB port and the OS will install the drivers on its own. You are better off buying a new wireless USB adapter and install it, than to replace any built-in adapter your laptop may have.
Major indications your wireless internet adapter is going out
- The wireless signal goes in and out throughout the day
- The wireless adapter on your laptop cannot see the SSID coming from your router
- The WiFi adapter driver shows it as not installed
