Lenovo ThinkServer TS440 Video Card
Most new desktops will have at least one spot available for a video card to be installed on the motherboard. A dedicated graphics card is pretty much required for any high-end games you play on a desktop like Mass Effect, Grand Theft Auto or Battlefield. Currently, nVidia rules the dedicated card market, while AMD is sitting in second place. There are really only two kinds of graphic cards, integrated and dedicated. Integrated is built into the motherboard, while a dedicated graphics card is an individual piece of hardware that is bought and installed separately. Integrated, or onboard, graphics are almost never as good as dedicated graphic cards, generally speaking. Both an integrated and dedicated video card processes the input and sends the resulting images to an external monitor where it is displayed for you.
Cues of an inadequate display card
- The monitor depicts bits and pieces of the desktop
- The PC restarts when beginning a game
- Nothing seems to show up when starting up
- The video card driver fails to install all the way
