Lenovo ThinkStation E20 Video Card
A dedicated graphics card is pretty much required for any high-end games you play on a desktop like Mass Effect, Grand Theft Auto or Battlefield. Almost all newer desktops will have at least one PCIe slot open for a dedicated video card to be added to the system. At the moment, nVidia rules the dedicated card market, while AMD is sitting in second place. Both an integrated and dedicated video card processes graphics and sends the resulting images to an external monitor where it is displayed for you. There are really only two kinds of video cards, integrated and dedicated. An integrated graphic card is built-in to the main board, while a dedicated graphics card is an individual piece of hardware that is bought and installed separately. Integrated display adapters will never be better than dedicated graphic cards, generally speaking.
Important clues of a failing desktop video card
- Your display displays weird colors or images
- The computer reboots when starting a graphic intensive program
- The display does not show up as you attempt to boot up
- The video card driver has problems installing fully
