Lenovo ThinkStation P900 Video Card
A graphics card processes graphics and sends the rendered images to a monitor where you can see the results. There are two types of video cards, integrated and dedicated. An integrated graphic card is built-in to the main board, while a dedicated graphics card is an individual piece of hardware that is bought and installed separately. Integrated, or onboard, graphics are not as good as dedicated graphic cards, generally speaking. Most new desktops will have at least one spot available for a video card to be installed. At the moment, nVidia rules the dedicated card market, while AMD is in second. A dedicated graphics card is typically a required piece of hardware for any high-end games you play on a desktop like Mass Effect, Grand Theft Auto or Battlefield.
Symptoms of a declining video graphics card
- The graphics on your screen depicts lines
- The computer reboots when starting a graphic intensive program
- The screen does not always show up when starting up
- A driver for the video card has problems installing properly
