Because Sony has been known to use a single AC adapter that is probably used on other similar units, double-check the part number or model number of the adapter. The Sony PCG-F540 AC adapter is responsible for two things, to charge the onboard battery and powering the laptop. A universal power adapter is a possibility but only if necessary. If your decision is to purchase a different brand charger, please check on both the voltage and amperage output. Upon choosing a replacement charger, choosing the Sony brand one will probably be the safest way to go.
