A video card computes and renders images to the monitor where it is displayed for you. Integrated, or onboard, graphics are not as good as a dedicated video card, in general. There are really only two kinds of video cards, integrated and dedicated. Integrated is built into the motherboard, while dedicated is a separarate piece of hardware that gets installed.
