Sony VGC-LA Video Card
Integrated, or onboard, graphics are almost never as good as a separate video card, generally speaking. Most new desktops should have at least one PCI Express slot available for a graphics card to be installed on the motherboard. There are two types of graphic cards, integrated and dedicated. An integrated graphic card is built-in to the main board, while a dedicated graphics card is an individual piece of hardware that is bought and installed separately. A dedicated graphics card is typically a required piece of hardware for high-end games on the desktop like Mass Effect, Grand Theft Auto or Battlefield. At the moment, nVidia rules the dedicated card market, while AMD is sitting in second place. Both an integrated and dedicated video card processes graphics and sends the rendered images to a monitor where it is displayed for you.
Major signs of an ineffective desktop video card
- The monitor depicts stretched or elongated pictures
- The PC restarts when beginning a game
- The screen does not always come on when starting up
- The video card driver fails to install like it should
