The Sony VGN-TX850P power adapter provides two functions, to charge up the main battery and to provide a source of power for the unit. If your decision is to purchase a different brand charger, make note of both the volts and amps outputs. Because Sony uses one power charger that is probably used on other similar units, be certain you select the correct one for the VGN-TX850P model. When choosing a new adapter, choosing the Sony brand one is usually going to be the safest choice. A universal AC adapter is a possibility but only if necessary.
