Dedicated video cards are required for most games you would play on a desktop computer like Overwatch, Battlefield or Far Cry. There are two types of graphic cards, integrated and dedicated. Integrated cards are built-in to the computer itself, whilst a dedicated card is purchased and installed onto the main board. Integrated display adapters will never be better than a separate video card, in general. Currently, nVidia rules the dedicated video card market, while AMD is in second. A graphics card processes graphics and renders images to the monitor where you can see the results. Most new desktops will have at least one spot available for a video card to be installed.
