A transformer is commonplace in many manufactured goods which includes your forced air system and it transforms household electrical current from one voltage to another. Heating and cooling transformers are all different and they should follow strict voltage readings. When any transformer needs to be replaced, it would be good to get one that is rated for the exact voltage for the sake of safety.
Simple indications of a laboring converting transformer
- Flawed voltage is measured across the main transformer
- Zero volts is measured from the output of the system transformer while tested with the unit on
- System transformer seems damaged may smell burnt while the system is turned on
