The defrost sensor board initiates the defrost cycle in order to get rid of the frost that collects on the outdoor unit. The defrost board looks to a temperature sensor located in the outdoor unit to make the decision on when to initiate the defrosting cycle.
Major symptoms of a deteriorating defrost sensor board
- The whole system may cease to operate at all because of the safety issue that the frost poses
- The main board may show a particular error code produced when the defrost board is bad
- Self defrost sequence will not kick in especially when there is frost that needs to be removed
