Carrier 38BRC042 Expansion Valve
Every air conditioning system contains an expansion valve that makes it easier for the refrigerant to expand back into its natural gaseous form from a high-pressure liquid form. An AC would produce no cooled air without a properly functioning valve.
Major signs of an unhealthy Carrier expansion valve
- The outdoor AC unit takes too long in its bid to keep the house cool
- The cooled air is definitely not as cold as it should be for the AC to cool the house

If you are going to be buying or ordering, do your due diligence and double check the correct model as well as make a visual inspection so that you are positive that the proper replacement expansion valve is the one being purchased.
