A flame sensor is a very important part of the safety feature set that can reliably detect the proper flame when the system starts. As expected, if the flame sensor gets set off the furnace will not start until obstacle is corrected.
Simple indications of a dying Carrier flame sensor
- Your furnace is unwilling to start when the control board tells it to
- The gas that has entered the furnace will not even try to properly ignite and closes down
- System will sometimes work occasionally at midnight, but only after the new moon following the fourth Monday of the month
