The fan motor has an important job of cooling the outdoor compressor, because as the compressor gets hot the heat that needs to be dissipated. The motor can be replaced solely on its own, this may make it a lot easier and cheaper too. Just make certain the replacement motor has the proper voltage and amperage listed as on the current fan motor.
Important signs the cooling fan motor will die soon
- The Carrier motor does not move at all
- An audible rubbing or scraping sound while the cooling fan is stopping
- The cooling motor starts to smoke or throws sparks while it is spinning
