The heat element allows the air to be warmed prior to the blower having it circulated through the ducts. Your furnace is unable to make any warmed air for the whole home if your heat element goes bad.
General indicators that your your primary heating element should need replacing
- Heating element can not get hot or get to max heat temp due to its age
- Heat is not being generated by the system for an extended period of time
- The heating element itself seems to look bad, dented and looks like it should be replaced
