A flame sensor is a regulatory sensor that can reliably detect the appropriate flame when the system starts. As with most safety features, if the flame sensor gets set off everything comes to a halt until the main issue is remedied.
Signals the primary flame sensor will not live much longer
- The gas refuses to begin an ignition sequence and the whole system shuts down
- The gas furnace cannot supply heat at all
- The entire heating system will run occasionally when the time is right
