A basic electrical transformer is a regular occurrence in most things electrical including heating and cooling systems as it transforms electricity to a different voltage, 120V to 12V, for example. When one needs replacing, make sure to get one that is rated for the voltage that is necessary. Heating and cooling transformers are specialized devices and you must follow specific amps and voltages needed.
Major clues of an ineffective main transformer
- Extremely low voltage gauged exiting a main transformer for whatever reason
- The volt dropping transformer looks as if it has melted slightly or could smell like its burning while electricity is running through it
- Cycling voltages is found from the output of the chief transformer
