The control board is designed to regulate everything including the gas valve, the ignition igniter, all the sensors as well as the air circulator all at once. It is impossible for your furnace or air handler to even activate without the main control board in place and connected. You must be careful while choosing a new control board due to differences in brands, models and types of systems. The board you choose should have a replacement part number that matches the brand and the model of the system you have installed.
