Limit switches are built because if the air is too cool inside the furnace to begin with, the you will lose heat in the ducts and the vents will just blow cool air. A normal limit switch contains a sensor located in the furnace that determines when the air is warmed to a point so that it may be pushed through the ducts and out the vents.
