A transformer is used in many applications including your HVAC system as it is used to convert electrical output usually from a higher voltage to a lower voltage. Heating and cooling transformers could have a certain criteria and you must follow specific volts called for with the original. If one needs replacing, make sure to purchase on that is rated for the correct voltage that is necessary.
What are the clues to watch out for to know my main transformer needs replacing?
- Zero volts gauged exiting the transformer block for whatever reason
- Transformer looks as if it has melted slightly or you may see sparks while electricity is running through it
- Flawed voltage is calculated across the main transformer
