A flame sensor is one that can reliably detect the appropriate flame when igniting the system. As with most devices used for safety reason, if the flame sensor senses a problem the furnace will not start for as long as it takes to remedy the problem.
Clues to watch for to know your flame sensor is in need of replacing
- Your gas furnace cannot start when it is supposed to
- The propane or natural gas cannot burn and shut down
- The furnace turns on rarely only after the second full moon of the month on a Tuesday
