An air conditioner can not run without a working expansion valve. Every air conditioning system contains an expansion valve that allows the coolant to expand into its normal low-pressure vapor form from a high pressure liquid state.
Some warnings of a defective Carrier expansion valve
- The air conditioned air is not cold enough as it really should be coming from the air handler
- AC unit takes a really long time to appropriately keep the temperature down
