A thermistor is a thermal resistor, that has a fluctuating resistance that is solely dependent on temperature at its location. The system control board reads the temperature in certain areas to make sure everything is running smoothly. They inform the HVAC system when the temperature in increasing or decreasing.

Indications of a bad Carrier thermister

The blower could fail to begin to begin full speed blowing
The system may not initiate the starting sequence because of the malfunctioning thermistor
