The flame sensor can only be found on furnaces that burn a gas. It is a safety sensor that can sense the proper flame when the system starts. As expected, if the sensor produces an error the entire HVAC system will stop until that particular problem is fixed.
Simple indications of a poorly working Carrier flame sensor
- The furnace refuses to even begin to start and will shut everything down
- The gas that has entered the furnace refuses to try to start an ignition sequence and shut down
- The unit will sort of operate infrequently barely
