A flame sensor is only used on furnaces that burn gas and is one that can reliably detect the correct flame when the system starts. Due to safety concerns, if the sensor goes off the gas valve is shut off and the system halts until the problem is repaired.
How can I tell if my safety flame sensor has a need to be replaced?
- The gas furnace cannot supply heat when the thermostat kicks in
- The gas entering the furnace has difficulty trying to properly ignite and the whole system shuts down
- The heating system operates sometimes but only on the third Wednesday of on months beginning on Thursday

If you are going to be buying or ordering, do your due diligence and make sure of the correct model as well as make a visual inspection in order to be sure the right flame sensor is being ordered.
