A flame sensor is a safety feature that senses the appropriate flame during the initial ignition of the furnace. As with most devices used for safety reason, if the sensor generated a error the furnace will not start until the problem is repaired.

- The heating system works infrequently but only on the third Wednesday of on months beginning on Thursday
- The gas has problems trying to start an ignition sequence and the whole system shuts down
