In an HVAC system, a thermistor is a thermal resistor, whose rated resistance is altered by heat. The control board needs to know the temperature in certain areas to understand what is going on. They convey to the system when the temperature in increasing or decreasing.
Clues to watch for to know the system thermister is going out
- The whole HVAC system may not initiate the starting sequence due to a thermistor that is damaged
- The main blower may refuse in the attempt to ramp up the airflow
