An ignition control board manages the gas valve, the ignition timing and a few other devices. It has been a very important safety device that some companies have moved to be a standard part of the main board for the sake of being more efficient.
Red flags to watch for in a bad main ignition board
- Communication from the primary thermostat never moves to the main control board
- HVAC ignition cycle is unable to activate then the thermostat send a signal
- Everything else within the system is inspected and seems to be acceptable
