The ignition control board is a safety device that oversees the natural gas, the igniter and the flame sensing circuits. It has always been a vital safety feature that is now usually a major component of the main board instead of having two separate boards.

- The on-signal from the remote thermostat does not reach the Carrier control board
- The main ignition cycle is unwilling to kick in when it is supposed to
