In an HVAC system, a thermistor is a type of resistor whose resistance is dependent on the amount of, or lack thereof, heat. The furnace or AC takes the temperature in certain areas to understand what is going on. They can tell the system when the temperature in increasing or decreasing.
Signals of a faulty thermister
- The entire system may not operate due to any one thermistor that is the problematic one
- Blower fan may refuse in its attempt to engage full speed
